Once A Rocket, Always A Rocket!
Class of ’54 Leaves A Legacy to Northeast
Songs, funny stories, fond remembrances of lost classmates, and renewed friendships were all part of the 50th Reunion of the Northeast High School Class of ’54. The theme of the summer event was “The Four Corners of Our World.” At the reunion former Rockets shared memories of the “Four Corners” of their high school days: the areas of Bethany, Havelock, University Place, and Ag College. Many laughs were shared about the “Bethany Bums” and the Ag College “Wiz Kids.”
These four corners also inspired the creation of a beautiful quilt, featuring the four corners quilt design, made by Janice Rolofson Gustafson. This quilt, along with other memorabilia from the class, is now on display in the media center for everyone to enjoy.
In addition to celebrating, the class wanted to leave a legacy to the school they all love so much. Donations were collected to purchase several lasting gifts for the school. One of the gifts is an information center for the library media center. This will be used by all LNE students and staff for years to come.
Four representatives of the Class of ’54, Terry Spencer, Nancy (Tracy) Vergith, Janice (Rolofson) Gustafson, and Fran (Wing) Otto, presented Principal Kurt Glathar with the donations on March 1, 2005, in the library media center (see upper left picture). The pride and loyalty to Northeast felt by the Class of ’54 are an inspiration to one and all. Northeast students and staff thank each class member of 1954 for their generosity!
