ACT/SAT
TESTING

The American College Test (ACT) is required for most college-bound students.  The ACT iswidely accepted at most colleges and universities in the midwest.  The test is curriculum based and includes test areas in English, Mathematics, Reading and Science.   Scores for each section are averaged to create a composite score.  A perfect score on the ACT assessment is 36.  The ACT is used for college admission decisions and placement.  Most LNE students took the pre-ACT test called the PLAN test during their sophomore year.
Students are strongly encouraged to take the ACT in the spring of their junior year, with a follow-up in the summer or in the fall of their senior year.  Research shows that scores can improve with repeat test attempts.  The cost of the ACT test is $30.00.  The cost of ACT Test plus writing is 44.50. Students from low-income families can request TWO fee waivers from the Counseling Center.  Registration materials are available from the Counseling Center, Room 212, or it is preferred that you register online at www.actstudent.org.
The Writing Test, which is optional, measures skill in planning and writing a short essay.  Most Midwest colleges do not require the Writing Test.  See your Counselor for more information about the necessity of taking the ACT Writing Test.

Lincoln Northeast High Schools ACT Code is:  281-310

The College Board administers the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).  It is a four-hour exam that measure verbal, math reasoning and writing skills.  Scores on each section range from 200-800 points.
The SAT Reasoning Test ($43) is a three-hour-and-45-minute test that measures critical reading, mathematical reasoning, and writing skills that students have developed over time and that they need to be successful in college. The new SAT is better aligned with current curriculum and institutional practices in high school and college. By including a third measure of skills, writing, the SAT reinforces the importance of writing throughout a student's education and will help colleges make better admissions and placement decisions. The new SAT was administered for the first time in March 2005 for the class of 2006.
SAT Subject Tests ($20.00) (formerly SAT II: Subject Tests) are a battery of one-hour, mostly multiple-choice tests that measure how much students know about a particular academic subject and how well they can apply that knowledge.  These Subject Tests may be required for admission to some elite colleges/universities.  See you Counselor for more information.
LNE students wishing to attend a school at one of the coasts or who are considering an elite college or university are encouraged to take the SAT in addition to the ACT.  The SAT is given at Lincoln East High School and the cost is SAT (includes Writing) is $43.00 SAT Subject tests are $20.   Students from low-income families can request a fee waiver, up to four times, from the Counseling Center.  You can pick up registration materials in the Counseling Center, Room 212, or it is preferred that you register online at www.collegeboard.com.
