Senior Year Time Line

August
• Erase from your mind the idea that Senior year should be easy.
• Take challenging courses in English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and World Language.
• Remain active in school and/or community activities. (Include CI community service on resume.)

September
• Get a calendar & write down deadlines for ACT/SAT, college applications, scholarships, letters ore    recommendation. Refer to it regularly.
• Register for ACT and/or SAT if planning to apply to 4-year colleges. Online registration preferred; paper   registration materials available in Counseling Center . Testing details available on Counseling Center Web Site.
• Take COMPASS for SCC.
• Begin college application process
• Narrow selection of schools you will apply to
• Check admissions requirements
• Most schools prefer online application
• Watch application deadlines
• Obtain/prepare supporting materials (transcripts, resume, essays, recommendations) as needed ( Request letters of    recommendation 2-3 weeks ahead)

October
• Learn more about schools you are interested in; get acquainted with their college reps
• Attend Lincoln Area College Fair, October 22, at SCC
Omaha College Fair, October 30 at UNO.
• Meet w/reps at Northeast-- Dates for upcoming visits on Calendar Page
• Use Fall Break to visit schools
• Research scholarship opportunities; check criteria carefully before applying
• Look for scholarships at schools you've chosen
• Check Counseling web site for scholarships
• Remember that scholarship deadlines are strict

November
• Continue October activities
• If considering Early Decision application, be sure you understand pros and cons

December
• Register for pin number for FAFSAat www.pin.ed.gov
• Gather college information from visiting relatives and friends
• Attend Financial Aid Night at LNE Dec 12th

January
• Complete tax returns early. File FAFSA electronically as soon as your own and parents' tax returns are complete.

February and March
• Keep checking for scholarship opportunities. Apply for any for which you are eligible. Watch deadlines
• Acceptance letters arrive if not received already

April
• Financial aid package information arrives
• Make final college selection and notify admissions office. National date for notification is May 1st .
  Notify schools you don't plan to attend also.

May
• Send thank you notes to benefactors for any scholarships to have received
• Send deposits for tuition, room and board, as requested.
• Request final transcript for school you will attend. Request forms are available from the registrar; transcripts are mailed at the end of June.

June
• Congratulations, graduate! Make the most of you college opportunities.
