Well Rocket Nation, we have wrapped up yet another successful year at ‘The Rock’. Our success at Northeast is growing. Students are participating more and the leadership students/athletes are providing has been vital to our growth. Rocket Nation has had so many highlights this past year from individual achievement to team success. I just want to congratulate all athletes and coaches for their efforts, and I want to let them all know just how excited the Rocket community is for 2022-23.

The Rocket family added some new coaches this past year: Melissa Martinez (SB), Phillip Yapp (Boys Soccer). Both did an exceptional job in their first year! They generated excitement and a desire to compete. We are also adding two new head coaches for the 2022-23 school year with Anthony Castillo (WR) and Javonta Boyd (FB). We are super excited for both of these coaches.

I want to also say thank you to the many new Assistant coaches who joined the Rocket family and for the job they did to make improvements. Also thanks to the Volunteer coaches who dedicated countless hours just because they want to see Northeast succeed. And finally as we wrap up this school year, I want to say farewell to some Rocket coaches who are taking new paths and ventures in life. As you know, ‘Once a Rocket, Always A Rocket’. The Rocket community and I thank you for your willingness to assist our students/athletes: Dan Martin (FB), Zach Schnell (WR), and Erin Pauley (Dance).

Just a reminder to please complete student/athlete physicals prior to the school year beginning. Also a reminder to make sure those physicals are taken after May 1, 2022. If completed prior, the physical will not be valid if the athlete brings that to the office. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the LNE Athletic Office: 402-436-1337.

Also, please make sure to either come to our office and get your athlete’s participation packet and fill out the necessary paperwork to ensure your athlete is eligible for their first day of practice. This paperwork may also be completed online as well. As you fill out the paperwork either on hardcopy or electronically, make sure all information is completed. Too many times we have missing information or signatures.

The summer is a time to reflect and recharge one’s batteries. It is important to take some time for yourself; however, please don’t take off the entire summer. Everyone needs to sign up for a time slot on the weight room schedule, know when your summer open gym/open fields are scheduled so that you can attend, and make sure to attend team camps. This will only enhance abilities, sharpen skills to allow for better growth and development. Teams are made during the off season because this is where focus can be placed on skill development and team chemistry is created. Please check our website for camp information or the LPS website under the Athletics tab.

This year has truly been an honor to once again work alongside such great students, coaches, and administrators. Please know just how much I am thankful to be working at Lincoln Northeast, and I’m looking forward to more great accomplishments this next school year.

I know each school has a motto they have coined as meaning something to them; however, “Once A Rocket, Always a Rocket” is truly more than a motto. It is like that of a Family Crest. You may not know this or just take things for granted, but a day does not pass that I don’t make a connection or have a conversation with someone who tells me that they were a Rocket and the pride that that person has is a forever bond. I am challenging each and every one of you athletes, parents, and patrons to continue to support and promote this fabulous school. It is truly an honor to be a Rocket, and our students/athletes value their time here at ‘The Rock’!

Have a fantastic summer, Rockets! Please use our Rocket website to keep up to date with Rocket activities. The Athletics website can be found here This site is where you can find our most up to date calendar. Also, our site has a link to our online Rocket Store, and we also have Rocket gear available for purchase at our Rocket Store on campus. Go Rockets!

Matt Uher, Athletic & Activities Director

This school year has been one of challenges and flexibility in terms of athletic and activity events. As we moved forward the Covid protocols moved rapidly as to how to set up and run events as well as how competitors would have to work through them. Looking back now it has been wonderful that we have been able to hold schedules together to allow competitions and celebrations for all of the seasons. The weather has thrown a few curve balls too in having to make changes as needed quickly and efficiently. However, one part has been constant. That is the effort given by our students, coaches and sponsors, as well as support from the Rocket community. We simply could not have been able to have the successes we have had without everyone pulling together. It is truly appreciated not surprising as this is “Northeast” which has supported this school and community for many years and many more to come.

As the end of the school year winds to a close and summer takes flight there will be new visions of goals and aspirations for the upcoming year. It seems at times that things are happening at such a rapid pace that we forget what has happened in the recent and distant past. Be sure to remember all of the accomplishments that the Rockets of 2021-2022 were able to complete. It was a special year in many ways. And, it is one that will leave many permanent memories of growth and personal achievements. Thank you to all students and staff that kept at it through all that was put in front of them. You are appreciated and continue to keep the tradition alive.

Jeff Pierce, Assistant Athletic & Activities Director

Athletic Training

Just a reminder, if any students want to apply to become an athletic training student aide, applications are in the athletic training room. Student aides have the chance to receive a letter while helping out the athletic training staff and the athletes!

Summer camps are just around the corner, keep the athletes moving during the off seasons! The main thing to keep in mind when it comes to summer conditioning is heat illness and how fast it can start. The best way to prevent heat illness is: acclimate slowly to the hotter temperatures, hydrate throughout the entire day. Spend some time outside over the summer before athletic camps start. There are three categories when it comes to heat illnesses and they progress in this order: Heat Cramps, Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke. When your body is to the point of overheating and goes into heat exhaustion you can experience fainting, dizziness, nausea, heavy sweating and cold, pale, clammy skin. If these signs and symptoms go unnoticed and turn into heat stroke, the signs and symptoms include hot, dry skin, high body temperature, unconsciousness, and a fast pulse. Knowing what signs and symptoms to look for, you will better prepare yourself if this situation happens. What you can do: stop physical activity and move to a cooler place or take a cold bath. If you are witnessing a heat stroke, call 911 right away, move the athlete to a cooler place and submerge them in a cold bath. The goal is to lower the body temperature to slow down the process of the body shutting down. STAY SAFE. STAY COOL.

Cross Country

To be successful as a cross country program, we need all our members to train over the summer. Starting June 1st, the team will be meeting at LNE track Monday through Friday all summer at 8:00 a.m.

We have a preseason meeting on Thursday May 12th to go over summer training programs and meeting times. If you are unable to attend, contact Coach Snoozy at the e-mail below.

Athletic Packets are now available to pick up in the Athletic Office or to complete online. Make sure that you get it done well before the first day of practice on August 8th.

Numbers last year were lower than normal. We need anyone interested in Cross Country to come and be a part of our family. Multi-sport athletes, this would be a great opportunity to get ready for your winter sport.

Remember we run/compete for a greater purpose than ourselves. Together we can always have the best program possible.

Looking forward to next season to be even better. Go ROCKETS!

Coach John Snoozy

You can get a head start and get your participation packet completed over the summer. If you do not have internet access, you can pick up a packet or print the forms online and return them to the athletic department office.

LNE currently does not have a Debate program. We would like to get it started again, and are looking for students who enjoy logic and philosophy, and enjoy engaging in competitive debates against students from all over the Midwest.

Regular practice would occur 2-3 times a week. The season begins in November and lasts through the end of March. Contact the Activities Office, Room 171, if you would be interested in participating next year.

This season we were competitive in every game we played. We played one of the toughest schedules in the state and we expect to see those tough games make us better moving forward.

The weight room will be an expectation for our program moving into summer baseball and workouts. ALL current and incoming baseball players are expected to be in summer weights and signed up for a weight class for next school year.

Girls Soccer ended their spring season in the semi-finals of districts. It has been a successful season full of fun and growth for the Lady Rockets. This summer, we will host our clinic during the week of July 11th. Make sure to sign up using jump code PGRM. Also, be on the lookout for open field dates that will be announced soon! We wish the rest of our spring sports the best of luck at districts!

Head Coach Jose Hidalgo

Girl's Tennis

During the fall and winter months, I encouraged all girls interested in playing tennis in the spring to get out there with their rackets and play as much tennis as possible when the weather cooperates. We had some beautiful late fall/early winter days and I hope some of them were used. However, with COVID protocols we have not been able do any indoor tennis time. It’s been a different offseason for everyone.

But now is the time for the season to get underway and I cannot be more excited. The year has been long, but I am very excited to see the new team and truly get to know them, and play our season this time around. It should be a fun year.

Now, as the season gets underway, it is important that we remain motivated for the season, both on the court and off. The more mentally prepared we are — with our school work and practice work — the more successful we can be as a program moving forward. I am looking forward to the season.

Go Rockets!

Coach Michael Mason-D’Croz

Track and Field

As our season winds down, we have many things to be thankful for. Congratulations to Tasia Sadler and Laney Songster for making the Rocket Hall of Fame Track and Field list.  Sean Dart and Gage LeMay are very close to making it. Hopefully at Districts they will.

May 10th will be the A-4 District State Qualifier meet. We host it at Lincoln High beginning at 11:00. Come out and cheer our athletes as they try to get their personal best performances.

Our team is very promising for the future. Most of the team was freshman and sophomores. We need more next year to compliment the athletes coming back.

As your head coach, I want to thank all of my student athletes that put forth effort in the classroom as well as at meets to be the best that you could be. Continue to excel in all you do because you’re a Rocket Track and Field student athlete.

Take the discipline and mental toughness that you have gained in our program and bring it to other athletic programs at Northeast.
